Shedding Seasons
With the turn of every season the Earth sheds her past and pulls on a new day with the solstice or equinox. She strives forward with the change of season, leaving her past behind, but like all life, the past always seems to poke its way through even if just for a day; late snow storms in April, rain showers in July, 80 degree days in October and warm sunny days in December. Unlike all other life the Earth moves forward leaving behind the memories of seasons past, whether they had been good or bad, and continues renewing life. The earth deposits the fallen leaves, melts the snow, evaporates the rain for a later day and soaks in the sun’s glowing rays. Whether those around her are ready or not, the Earth, starts her new beginning without a question and showing signs of new life with budding flowers, warming rays, a rigid frost or a winter dusting. But leaving the past behind is not quite so easy for man. We run back to find what we have left behind, we thrive in the “glory days”, we return to old lovers, waiting and chasing the “one that got away” and we mourn and question the loss of loved ones. I am guilty of being human and making all mistakes that are human, but I vow from this day forward to be more like the Earth. I vow to approach my life with changing seasons, to never become stagnant, to never find complacency in mediocrity and to always accept and nuture the next solstice or equinox of my life. “The first step toward getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.”
